BLACKSBURG - The Virginia Tech/North Carolina wrestling match, which will take place at 2 p.m. on Sunday inside Cassell Coliseum, will be aired regionally on a tape-delayed basis on Comcast SportsNet.
The dual meet will be aired on Jan. 29 at 9 p.m., Jan. 30 at 4 p.m., Feb. 2 at 9 p.m. and on Feb. 25 at either 3 or 4 p.m.
“This is a huge opportunity for us to showcase Virginia Tech wrestling on television and we need to take advantage of it,” said head coach Kevin Dresser. “We need all Hokie fans in the area to come out and be loud and make Cassell Coliseum look good on TV. But more importantly, let’s break that attendance record!”
Sunday’s match is the annual “Drive For 5,000” in an effort to set a new Coliseum attendance record for wrestling. The Hokies had just over 3,200 in attendance last year against Virginia.
There will be several promotions and giveaways for Sunday, including free pizza to the first 300 Tech students; free VT tumbler cups, color-changing cups and photo albums to the first 450 fans; numerous gift card giveaways, including $100 to TOTS & PKs; a raffle for Coach Beamer signed baseball hats; and a post-match wrestling autograph session on the Cassell concourse. Additionally, Tech football players Logan Thomas and Andrew Miller (former wrestler) will be throwing out T-shirts during the match and members of the football team will be holding an autograph session on the Cassell concourse from 1:15 until the match starts at 2.
