Garnett, Spjut qualify for US Open
Both qualify through mini tournament to the main action

CLEVELAND, Ohio - Virginia Tech wrestlers Jarrod Garnett and Erik Spjut both qualified for the Asics US Open by qualifying in Friday’s mini tournament. The two will now begin action in the men’s freestyle 60kg finals tournament Saturday inside Public Hall in Cleveland, Ohio.

Garnett will take on top-seeded Shawn Bunch (Ohio RTC, Gator WC) in the first round while Spjut will face fourth-seeded Matt Valenti (Lehigh Valley WC).

Garnett is a two-time ACC champion at 125 pounds and will be a rising senior for the Hokies next year. Spjut redshirted after suffering a knee injury in the 2009-2010 season and will battle for a spot at 133 pounds next season.
