UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - Five Virginia Tech wrestlers placed at the annual Nittany Lion Open, held Sunday at Penn State University. Jesse Dong, wrestling unattached, placed second at 157 pounds by going 5-1 on the day.

Cameron Hurd had a good showing by placing fourth at 149 pounds with a 4-2 mark for the day. Erik Spjut, wrestling unattached, placed fifth at 133 pounds with a 5-1 mark. Also taking fifth was Zach Neibert, who went 6-1 on the day at 141 pounds. Ty Mitch, who competed unattached, took eighth at 125 pounds after going 3-3.

The team, ranked 10th in the country with a 6-2 record, will take the rest of the month off before taking on Appalachian State and Campbell on Tuesday, Jan. 4 in Boone, N.C. The Hokies will take on ASU at 4 o’clock, and then will wrestle Campbell right after.
