CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - The Virginia Tech wrestling squad went 2-1 at the ACC Challenge Sunday, beating UNC Greensboro and Chattanooga, but narrowly falling to No. 4 Wisconsin.

With the results, the 15th-ranked Hokies are now 6-2 on the young season.

In the opener, Tech fell behind 17-0 but battled back to within striking distance late. But the Badgers held on for the win. Jarrod Garnett picked up a pin to get things going and later Chris Diaz picked up a technical fall before Brian Stephens up No. 16 Cole Schmitt, 7-5. Pete Yates picked up a technical fall of his own to make things interesting, but Wisconsin got a major decision in the last match to ice a 24-19 win.

Against Greensboro, the Hokies again fell behind early, this time 12-0. Devin Carter rebounded from his first college loss with a major decision. Zach Neibert picked up three points with a decision and then Stephens again beat a higher-ranked opponent, downing No. 17 Ivan Lopouchanski, 7-5. Yates gave the Hokies the lead with a major decision and then Matt Epperly won to seal the victory for Tech.

In the final match of the day, heavyweight David Marone got the Hokies on the board with a shutout win and then Carter and Diaz picked up bonus points with wins. Stephens and Yates continued their strong day with victories before Chris Moon and Tommy Spellman finished things off with wins to wrap up a 25-12 victory.

Stephens and Yates went 3-0 on the day and Diaz went 2-0.

Tech will head to Las Vegas in two weeks for the Las Vegas Invitational where the 10 starters will compete in the prestigious individual tournament.
