RALEIGH, N.C. – The 14th-ranked Virginia Tech wrestling team capped off its second-straight undefeated conference season with a 36-9 win over NC State Saturday afternoon at Reynolds Coliseum. The Hokies won the first six matches with several backups wrestling and won two more sown the stretch to wrap up things. Schuyler Swanton bounced back from a loss Friday night with a 7-3 decision over Mike Moreno at 125 pounds and then Brock LiVorio pulled out an exciting 14-13 win at 133 pounds. Back-up Nick Murray rolled to a 15-0 technical fall at 141 pounds over Scott Norris and then Brian Stephens capped his undefeated ACC slate with a pin over Greyson Mills midway through the first period. At 157 pounds, No. 5 Jesse Dong picked up a 15-0 technical fall of his own, downing Brett Farina and then Matt Epperly made it 26-0 with a 13-2 major decision over Ray Ward at 165 pounds. Taylor Knapp dropped a 6-0 decision to Quinton Godley at 174 pounds but then 19th-ranked Tommy Spellman pinned Colin Gerheart early in the first period to get the Hokies back on track. Freshman Chris Penny picked up his first ACC win in impressive fashion, beating Christian McClean 22-8 before the Hokies forfeited at heavyweight. With the win, the Hokies finished ACC play with a 4-0 mark. After going 5-0 last year and finishing the 2007-08 season with a win, the Hokies have now won 10 consecutive ACC dual meets. Tech (16-5, 4-0 ACC) will finish up the regular season with a dual meet against No. 25 Old Dominion Thursday (8 p.m.) at Andrew Lewis Middle School in Salem before preparing for the ACC Championships which will be held March 6 at Reynolds Coliseum.
