GREENSBORO, N.C. – Virginia Tech’s 149-pound Brian Stephens has been named Atlantic Coast Conference Wrestler of the Week after he picked up a huge win over 11th-ranked Tony D’Alie of Central Michigan last Friday night at Cassell Coliseum.

Trailing 3-0 in the second period, Stephens used a pair of takedowns to tie up the match and then in the third period used a takedown and three near fall points to cap a 9-0 run. A late takedown by Stephens completed the 12-7 upset for the true freshman from Piqua, Ohio. Stephens has cracked two of the latest wrestling polls, D1CollegeWrestling's poll and Amateur Wrestling News' poll.

Two ACC matches highlight the upcoming week. North Carolina travels to NC State on Thursday night, while No. 15 Virginia Tech travels to No. 11 Maryland on Saturday in a battle of ranked teams that are currently unbeaten in conference matches. No. 24 Virginia is home on Saturday for a doubleheader against in-state foes George Mason and 25th-ranked Old Dominion. NC State is slated to visit Old Dominion on Sunday afternoon.
