BLACKSBURG – For the first time in the program’s history, the Virginia Tech wrestling team has cracked the USA Today/InterMat/NWCA Coaches Poll, coming in at a tie for 13th. After upsetting No. 17 Michigan and No. 6 Central Michigan last weekend on the road, the Hokies are now 15-1 overall and have shot up the national charts. Tech is also ranked 19th in the country by W.I.N. Magazine.
The Hokies have three wrestlers ranked in InterMat’s Top 25: Jarrod Garnett (13th at 125 pounds), Chris Diaz (20th at 141 pounds) and Pete Yates (20th at 149 pounds).
Tech will face UVa Saturday at Deep Run High School in Glen Allen and will then take on UNC Sunday in Chapel Hill.
