BLACKSBURG – Members of the Virginia Tech wrestling squad will split up this weekend to participate in two separate tournaments. Ten wrestlers will head west for the Cliff Keen Las Vegas Invitational while a dozen more will head to the Davidson Open.

The Las Vegas Open will be held at the Las Vegas Convention Center, Hall C-3 on Friday and Saturday. The Davidson Open will go all day Saturday and be held on the Wildcats’ campus in North Carolina.

Action in Las Vegas begins Friday with pigtail bouts beginning at 9 a.m., local time, 11 a.m., Eastern. The championship finals begin at 5 p.m., local time, 7 p.m., Eastern on Saturday. Tickets are $35 for an all-session pass (adult) and $25 for students. A single-session pass is $12 for preliminary rounds (adult) and $8 for students. The championship final session costs $14 for adults, $10 for students. All seats are general admission. More information can be found at http://www.cklvwrestle.com/

In other news, a several Hokies popped into the national rankings this week. Jarrod Garnett, who is 12-0 on the season as a true freshman, is now No. 11 at 125 pounds while Jesse Dong, another freshman, is No. 19 at 157 pounds, according to the InterMat/NWCA/NWMA rankings. In the WrestlingReport.com rankings, Garnett is ranked 10th in the country while Chris Diaz (23rd at 141 pounds), Pete Yates (33rd at 149 pounds), Dong (17th ay 157 pounds), Matt Epperly (33rd at 165 pounds) and D.J. Bruce (29th at 197 pounds) are also ranked.
