BLACKSBURG – The Virginia Tech women’s basketball team accepted an invitation to the WNIT on Monday evening. Tech will matchup with Navy at 7 p.m. on Friday, March 16 at Cassell Coliseum.

This is the third consecutive season that the Hokies have featured in the competition, following their inclusion in 2016 and their memorable run to the quarterfinals in 2017, head coach Kenny Brooks’ first campaign in Blacksburg. The Hokies defeated Rider, Navy and Penn State before falling to eventual champion Michigan.

Last season’s WNIT Second Round meeting was the first in program history for the Hokies and the Midshipman. Tech earned the victory 75-64 to advance in the tournament.

The WNIT is a 64-team postseason tournament that has been competed every year since 1998. Each conference’s top available team is extended an invitation as well as 32 at-large teams.

Games are played on campus at the site of the school or institution that bids to host.

Tickets for the contest will go on sale through the Virginia Tech Athletics ticket office on Tuesday morning at 10 a.m. All tickets are general admission and will be available for $10 for adults, $5 for youth tickets (18 years of age and younger) and $5 for students.

The first 200 students at the Cassell Ticket Window will receive free admission thanks to a generous gift to the Hokie Club.
