Hokies fall to Hurricanes on final day of regular season
Tech heads to Greensboro for ACC Tournament next week

CORAL GABLES, FLORIDA – On the final day of the season, Miami shot 50 percent from the field and turned in a spirited effort on Senior Day at the Watsco Center as the Hurricanes defeated the Hokies 76-46 Sunday afternoon.
Tech was boosted by the return of Taylor Emery who chipped in seven points, after missing the Notre Dame contest on Thursday. Aisha Sheppard earned her second career start and began the game right where she left off against Notre Dame, knocking down a 3-pointer. She went on to have eight points and grab three rebounds.
The game was the final regular season contest ahead of the ACC Tournament in Greensboro next week, with the First Round taking place on Tuesday, Feb. 28.
Tech fell to 17-12 (6-10) on the season and will receive the 9 seed in the Tournament, receiving a first round bye for the first time in program history.
Rachel Camp was paced the Hokies offense with 13 points, playing an aggressive style that saw hit go to the free throw line 10 times on the afternoon.
Tech was plagued by turnovers all afternoon, committing 20 and not allowing the offense to get into a rhythm.
Kelsey Marshall scored 17 points, Shaneese Bailey scored 13 as the Canes moved to 20-9 on the season and 10-6 in the league.
It was a 10-point deficit at the half before an 11-5 run opened things up for the Canes.
NEXT UP: Tech will match up with the Syracuse Orange in the 8/9 matchup in the ACC Tournament on Thursday, March 1 at 2 p.m. Coverage will be available through Regional Sports Networks.
In the regular season matchup, the Hokies went into The Carrier Dome and won a 73-64 contest, delivering the Orange its first home loss of the season. Taylor Emery led the Hokies in scoring with 20 points on 7 of 18 shooting from the field.
