Hokies head to Coral Gables for regular season finale

The Virginia Tech women’s basketball team travels to Coral Gables, Florida for their last game of the regular season on Sunday, Feb. 25 with tipoff set for 4 p.m. Coverage will be available through ACC Network Extra.

On Thursday, Tech fell to No. 5 Notre Dame 89-59. Freshman guard Aisha Sheppard had a breakout game for the Hokies, scoring a new career-best 21 points. Her seven made 3-pointers were one away from tying the program record.

These two foes met earlier in the season at Cassell Coliseum on Jan. 28, a game that Miami took 82-78. Rachel Camp led all scorers with 25 points as the Hokies came back from a 20-point deficit late in the first half.

Miami enters at 19-9 overall and 9-6 in league play. Last time out, the Canes lost to Georgia Tech 70-51 on Thursday night.

THE SERIES: The Hurricanes lead the all-time series 6-19, which has been contested since 2000. Tech last beat the Canes during the 2009 season a 73-69 game in Coral Gables.

Miami has won 13 straight dating back to 2011.

NEXT UP: The Hokies will head to Greensboro, North Carolina for the ACC Tournament which will take place from Feb. 28 through March 4. Tech’s seed will be determined after the outcome of Sunday’s ACC contests.
