Hokies fall in South Bend 89-59

South Bend, Indiana – Freshman Aisha Sheppard knocked down seven 3-pointers, scoring a career-high 21 points, but it wasn’t enough for the Hokies to overcome the fifth-ranked Irish Thursday night. The Hokies fell to 17-11 (6-9) in the ACC heading into the final regular season game on Sunday, Feb. 25 against Miami.

Arike Ogunbawale scored a game-high 26 points on 11 of 20 shooting from the floor to lead the Irish (26-2, 14-1), who notched their 22nd straight home win.

Tech battled in the first quarter taking a lead after Sheppard hit a triple and Alexis Jean followed that possession with a 3-pointer of her own to put the Hokies up by four. Ogunbawale scored the opening quarter’s final basket to give the Irish the lead which they would not relinquish.

Notre Dame opened the second frame by scoring the first 13 points while the Hokies fell cold from the field.

Alexis Jean tallied 17 points and five rebounds, while Regan Magarity scored nine points and pulled down six boards.

Marina Mabrey scored 21 points and collected 11 rebounds and had eight assists for the Irish.
