WINSTON-SALEM, NORTH CAROLINA – Elisa Penna scored 16 points in the first half to get Wake Forest out to a 23-point lead and the Hokies could not find a way to mount a comeback, falling 73-56 from LJVM Coliseum.

The loss drops the Hokies’ record to 16-10 (5-8) in league play ahead of Sunday’s regular season finale a Carillion Clinic Court at Cassell Coliseum against Clemson.

After Alexis Jean made a triple from the corner giving the Hokies a 5-3 lead, the Deacs went on a 14-2 spearheaded by Penna and Tyra Whitehead to seize control.

Tech shot 41.1 percent from the field, but struggled to find its range going just 4 of 20 from beyond the 3-point arc.

Taylor Emery turned in another solid performance notching 20 points after being named the ACC Player of the Week.

The Hokies were hurt by 17 turnovers on the night, and were outrebounded 38-30.

Wake Forest was able to outscore Tech 44-28 in the paint and limited the Hokies to zero fast break points.

UP NEXT: The Hokies return home for its final home game of the regular season at Carilion Clinic Court at Cassell Coliseum, as they welcome the Clemson Tigers.

The game will be the Hokies’ annual Play4Kay pink game.
