Emery earns ACC Player of the Week honors

Taylor Emery has been named the ACC Player of the Week, the league office announced Monday afternoon.

Emery, a junior from Tampa, Florida scored averaged 28.5 points in the Hokies’ two contests last week to earn her first award of the season.

The 5 foot 10 guard led the way as the Hokies defeated North Carolina 90-74 in Chapel Hill on Wednesday night. Emery scored 25 points and dished out six assists, her best mark of the season.

On Sunday afternoon against rival Virginia, Emery scored 32 points, setting the new Virginia Tech record on Carilion Clinic Court at Cassell Coliseum in ACC games. She went 13 of 20 from the field, knocking down three 3-pointers.

In the fourth quarter alone, Emery had a personal run of 15 straight points, bringing the Hokies back to within single digits of the Cavaliers.

Emery now has 13 games of 20-plus points during the season and ranks fifth in the conference at 18.0 points per game.

The Hokies are back on the court Thursday, Feb. 15 when they take on Wake Forest in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m. and the game can be viewed on ACC Network Extra.
