SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Taylor Emery, Chanette Hicks and Regan Magarity led the way for Virginia Tech (15-8, 4-6) as the Hokies became the first basketball program from Blacksburg to win a game in upstate New York.

Tech scored nine of the last 12 points in the game to secure a signature win on the road Thursday night.

Knotted at the half, the Hokies came out and used a 10-0 run to seize control of the game, which they would never relinquish.

Taylor Emery once again led the Hokies spirited effort with 20 points and nine rebounds, while Regan Magarity recorded her 11th double-double of the season, turning in a 12-point 10 rebound effort.

The Hokies received a boost from Kendyl Brooks who scored in double figures, adding three triples and stepped to the free throw line in the closing moments to help close out the victory.

Hicks added 18 points off of the bench.

Syracuse falls to 17-6, 5-5 in the league after suffering their first home loss of the season. Tiana Mangakahia scored 16 points and provided 13 assists, the leagues leader.

The Orange were held to 8 for 43 from beyond the 3-point arc.

GAME NOTES
• The win served as the Hokies’ first over Syracuse since the 2004 season
• Tech became the first visiting team to win in the Carrier Dome in 12 visits including all 11 opponents this season.

Up next: The Hokies have a bye this weekend, before heading to Chapel Hill, North Carolina for a 7 p.m. tip on Wednesday, Feb. 7.
