BLACKSBURG — The gameday program featured her on the cover with the title ‘Camp can do it all’. No one could have known how apt that would be when Miami stepped into Cassell Coliseum on Sunday afternoon for an ACC tilt.
Rachel Camp had one of the best games of her career, pacing the Hokies with 25 points and nearly bringing the Hokies back from a 17-point halftime deficit.
“The points were fantastic, and she made some shots and got us going, but it was her energy,” Tech head coach Kenny Brooks said. “She did a really good job of attacking the basket and doing different things for us. She can be even better. That’s why I’m so excited for her to finally find her groove.”
She went 9 of 15 from the field and also pulled down five rebounds, while logging 35 minutes.
“We needed every ounce of her effort, and she did a really good job,” Brooks said. “I’m proud of her proud of her success. I’m happy for her.”
Camp has started the past eight games for the Hokies and has filled almost every role for the team, playing the 1 through the 4 positions. In each of the past five games, she has been the starting point guard.
The Hokies are back on the court Thursday, Feb. 1 when they travel to upstate New York to take on the Syracuse Orange. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m.
