BLACKSBURG – After an open date Thursday, the Virginia Tech women’s basketball team is set to travel to Louisville, Kentucky for a game against the third-ranked and undefeated Louisville Cardinals. Tip is set for 2 p.m. in Sunday, Jan. 7. The game can be viewed on ACC Network Extra.

Tech last played on Sunday, Dec. 31 against the Boston College Eagles, earning an 89-58 victory on Carilion Clinic Court. Five Hokies scored in double figures led by Taylor Emery’s 22 points. She shot 7 of 8 from the field and made all six of her free throw attempts in the game, as she was named Virginia Tech’s Athlete of the Week following the performance.
Regan Magarity tallied her ninth double-double of the season with 14 points and 11 rebounds.
Chanette Hicks recorded seven assists on the afternoon, taking her career total to 413, moving her into second place all-time at Virginia Tech.
The Cardinals: Louisville comes into the matchup ranked No.3 in the latest AP Poll. In its last contest, the Cardinals defeated No. 17 Duke 66-60 on Dec. 4. Asia Durr scored 22 points and Myisha Hines-Allen recorded a double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds to lead the Cards to victory before a crowd of 8,101 at the Yum! Center.
On the season Durr and Hines-Allen are the team’s leading scorers at 20.2 points per game and 13.7. Durr is the reigning Co-ACC Player of the Week.
The series: Tech is 17-18 all-time against the Cardinals, including 0-3 since Louisville joined the ACC. Tech last defeated Louisville in a Big East game played on Feb. 26, 1995.
In last season’s meeting in Blacksburg, Louisville won 88-70 after pulling away in the fourth quarter.
Chanette Hicks led the Hokies with 19 points, six rebounds and seven steals, a career-best in ACC play. Three other Hokies, Sidney Cook, Samantha Hill and Vanessa Panousis were also in double figures.
Asia Durr scored a game high 30 points.
Up next: Tech is back on Carilion Clinic Court on Thursday, Jan. 11 at 7 p.m. for a matchup with the Pitt Panthers.
