BLACKSBURG – The Virginia Tech women’s basketball team is set for a 9 p.m. tip on Friday at Carilion Clinic Court at Cassell Coliseum. The Hokies will matchup with the USC Upstate Spartans from the Atlantic Sun Conference.

Through two games, the Hokies have been led by junior college transfer Taylor Emery, who scored 20 points in her Virginia Tech debut and followed that up with another 20-point performance on Monday night in the Hokies’ win against Auburn.
Alexis Jean, another junior college transfer, also has impressed, recording a double-double in her second game, scoring 11 points and pulling down a game-high 14 rebounds.
Junior guard Chanette Hicks’ seven steals on the season have vaulted her to third all time in program history in that department with 221 for her career. She also dished out 10 assists in the season opener, marking the third time in her career in which she's eclipsed 10 assists in a game.
The Spartans
USC Upstate is 0-2 on the young season, falling to ECU on the road and Presbyterian at home on Wednesday night.
The Spartans are led in scoring by freshman guard Anda Kuzmina’s 11 points per game and senior center A’Lexxus Davis’ 10. In the middle of the floor, center Morgan Williams has pulled down 8 rebounds per game.
The Series
Virginia Tech and USC Upstate have met on the hardwood on two occasions previously, with the Hokies winning both times. The two most recently met in 2013 at Cassell Coliseum, as the Hokies earned a 65-61 victory. Uju Ugoka’s 27 points and 13 rebounds carried Tech to victory down the stretch, as well as some timely free throws from Hannah Young and Vanessa Panousis.
