
BLACKSBURG - The Virginia Tech women's basketball team is set to open the ACC slate on Sunday, Jan. 3, hosting Boston College at 2 p.m. in Cassell Coliseum.

THE HOKIES (12-1)
Virginia Tech defeated Furman, 59-30 the last time out. Hannah Young led all scorers with 12 points, connecting on 4-of-4 from outside the arc. Rachel Camp and Chanette Hicks tallied 10 points each. Hicks also handed out four assists and picked up four steals. Taijah Campbell had eight points and nine rebounds.
The Hokies led from the start after outscoring the Paladins 16-7 in the first quarter. Tech took a 38-12 lead into the break. Furman never got closer than 23 in the second half as the Hokies rolled to the win.
Vanessa Panousis leads the Hokies on the season, averaging 11.1 points per game. Young is adding 10.6 points and 5.4 rebounds. Hicks is chipping in 9.5 ppg, tallying 2.9 steals and 3.8 assists per game. Regan Magarity leads on the boards with 6.2 rpg and chipping in 8.4 ppg.
THE EAGLES (11-1)
Boston College defeated Bryant 74-59 in the team’s last game. Mariella Fasoula led the Eagles with 20 points and seven rebounds. Emilee Daley had 17 points and Nicole Boudreau added 12.
BC trailed Bryant 19-14 after the opening quarter and was down by one (41-40) at the break. BC opened the third quarter with a 7-2 run to pull ahead, but Bryant trailed by just two heading into the final frame. The Eagles outscored Bryant 20-7 in the final 10 minutes to secure the win.
Kelly Hughes leads the Eagles with 14.3 points per game. Fasoula is adding 11.7 ppg and 5.1 rpg. Daley is notching 8.3 points while Martina Mosetti has handed out 56 assists this season.
The Hokies and Eagles both faced off against Providence this season. Tech defeated the Friars 62-45 while BC picked up a 67-41 decision over the Friars. Hughes led the Eagles with 22 points while Tech was led by Sidney Cook with 16 points.
THE SERIES
This marks the 23rd meeting between the two teams with the series being tied at 11-11. Boston College won the game last season in Chestnut Hill, 49-47. Rachel Camp led the Hokies with 13 points while Vanessa Panousis tallied 11. Taijah Campbell pulled down 12 rebounds. Hughes led the Eagles with 17 points.
Virginia Tech won the game the last time the two teams met in Blacksburg, 70-63 in overtime. Panousis had 18 points for the Hokies while Young added 11 points and pulled down 10 rebounds. Hughes led the Eagles in that game too, coming off the bench for 22.
