Tech inks top-20 recruiting class on fall signing day
Women's basketball adds Gilmer, Hicks and Koshuta for 2015-16

BLACKSBURG, Va. – Virginia Tech head women’s basketball coach Dennis Wolff announces the signing of a top-20 recruiting class (ESPN HoopGurlz), including three-star recruit Alana Gilmer, four-star prospect Chanette Hicks and five-star Kelly Koshuta for the 2015-16 season.

“I’m excited about the whole class,” Wolff stated. “I think that every year we have been here as a staff we have been able to recruit a little bit better and this is a continuation of that. I also am very happy with the fact that in Kelly and Chanette’s cases that they are two girls who fit the profile geographically with both being from the state of Virginia.”

Prior to Virginia Tech: Ranked the 53rd best player and 15th best point guard by the Collegiate Girls Basketball Report… Ranked the 53rd best overall player and a four-star recruit by ESPN HoopGurlz… Tabbed the 17th best point guard by ESPN… As a junior averaged 11.6 points, 7.2 rebounds, 9.4 assists and 6.1 steals… 2014 All State Second Team… All-Tidewater Defensive Player of the Year for three consecutive years… All-Tidewater First Team as well as All-Region for three seasons… First Team All-Eastern District for the past three years… Played AAU for Boo Williams, helping the team to the title at the Primetime Super 60 over the summer.

Personal: Chanette Ariona-Tu’ray Hicks…. Born Oct. 19, 1997… Daughter of Reginald and Angela Hicks… Has two siblings, Chareese Hicks and Ryan Turner.

Wolff on Hicks: “Chanette Hicks has been very well coached throughout her high school career. She is as good an on-the-ball defender as there is coming into women’s college basketball in the country. Her energy level, her presence defensively and her unselfishness on offense will immediately help our team.”

Personal: Kelly Rae Koshuta… Born April 18, 1997… Daughter of Jim and Shelly Koshuta, both of whom graduated from Virginia Tech… Has four siblings Joe, Casey, Katie and Jill.

Wolff on Koshuta: “Kelly may have been the most productive back-to-the-basket player in the women’s AAU circuit last summer. She is extremely clever around the basket with either hand and really has a knack for scoring. She is very tough minded in regard to fighting in the lane for the ball on both offense and defense.”
