Ugoka inks contract with Vassalli 2G
Former Hokie to play in top Italian division

BLACKSBURG, Va. – Forward Uju Ugoka will continue her basketball career overseas as the Hokie standout has signed to play for Vassalli 2G in Vigarano Mainarda, Italy.

“We are extremely happy for Uju,” said Virginia Tech head coach Dennis Wolff. “Her hard work has paid off with a very good contract in the Italian first-division, which is a tremendous starting point for her European career.”

Ugoka wrapped up a two-year career this season at Tech after transferring in from a JUCO prior to her junior year. The Lagos, Nigeria native made a big impact on the Hokies in a short amount of time and had a standout senior campaign. She averaged 18.4 points and 9.6 rebounds per game, finishing the season ranked eighth in the ACC in scoring and third in rebounding.

During her senior year, Ugoka set a Virginia Tech single-season record with 16 double-doubles on the year and tied the longest streak in program history with six consecutive. She ranked 17th in the NCAA in number of double-doubles on the season. In addition, Ugoka set the Tech single-season field goals made record with 213, breaking the previous record of 212 set by Renee Dennis during the 1986-87 season.

"Words cannot explain how excited I am for this opportunity,” Ugoka said. “I thank God for making my dreams come through and all the support I have from my family, friends, school and loved ones. I am very excited for a new beginning."

Vigarano Mainarda is located between Bologna and Padua in Italy, a route that the Hokies traveled during their foreign tour this summer. Vassalli 2G competes in Serie A and finished last season with 16-9 record, winning the Group B title.
