BLACKSBURG, Va. - The Virginia Tech women's basketball team will host ACC newcomer Pittsburgh on Thursday, Feb. 20 at 7 p.m. in Cassell Coliseum. It marks the first time the two teams have met since the 2004 season with both were members of the BIG EAST Conference.

The Hokies
The last time out, the Hokies fell to rival Virgina, 80-64 in Charlottesville on Feb. 16.

Virginia Tech fell behind in the opening half and trailed 35-24 at the break. Early in the second half, the Cavaliers extended their lead to 17, but the Hokies chipped away at the deficit, cutting it down to a five point difference several times with just over eight minutes to go in the game. The Hokies kept it a two possession game over the next two minutes, trailing 60-54 with 6:53 to go, but that is as close as Tech would get as UVA outscored the Hokies 20-10 in the final minutes to secure the win.

Uju Ugoka led Tech with her 13th double-double of the season, tallying 21 points and 10 rebounds. Vanessa Panousis added 19 points and handed out seven assists. Hannah Young dropped in 14 points, including four baskets from outside the arc.

Ugoka leads Tech on the year, averaging 19.2 points and 9.8 rebounds. She is third in the conference in both scoring and rebounding. Panousis is notching 12.1 points and chipping in 4.1 assists. Monet Tellier is adding 11.2 points, 6.0 rebounds and 4.0 assists, but has been out the previous two games with a sprained wrist.

The Panthers
Pitt defeated Clemson 56-43 the last time out on Sunday, Feb. 16, in Pittsburgh, Pa.

The Panthers had a big lead at the break and were up 33-12 heading in to the second half. Clemson held the scoring advantage in the second half, outscoring Pitt, 31-23, but it was not enough to overcome the difference as the Panthers held on for the win.

Brianna Kiesel tallied 20 points for the Panthers while Loliya Briggs added 16 points. Briggs, Asia Logan and Ashlee Anderson pulled down five rebounds each and Marquel Davis handed out five assists and picked up three steals.

Kiesel leads Pitt on the season with 16.8 points per game while handing out 3.7 assists per game. Asia Logan is tallying 11.7 ppg and pulling down 6.6 rpg.

The Series
Virginia Tech holds the 5-2 lead in the all-time series, but the two teams have not met since 2004 when both were members of the BIG EAST Conference. Tech claimed the 85-55 win in Blacksburg in that meeting. Former Hokie Carrie Mason led the team with 14 points.

Up Next: The Hokies will return to the road to face No. 11/8 North Carolina on Sunday, Feb. 23. Game time is set for 2 p.m. at Carmichael Arena and will be aired on ESPN3.
