BLACKSBURG, Va. - The Virginia Tech women's basketball team is set to travel to rival Virginia to face the Cavaliers on Sunday, Feb. 16. Game time is set for 2 p.m. at John Paul Jones Arena.

The Hokies
The last time out, Wake Forest outlasted the Hokies, 65-64 on Thursday, Feb. 13 in Winston-Salem, N.C.

Virginia Tech led 32-29 at halftime after connecting on 56.5 percent from the field in the opening frame. The second half was back-and-forth between the two teams with eight ties and seven lead changes. Tech and Wake were tied 51 with 8:37 to go. The two teams traded baskets over the next several minutes and were knotted at 61 with 1:35 remaining. Wake sank a pair of free throws with under a minute to play, but Vanessa Panousis answered on the other end, hitting a three-pointer with 18 seconds to go to give Tech the 64-63 lead. With 5.9 seconds to play, Tech fouled before Wake could inbound the ball, sending the Deacs to the line where they sank both. The Hokies had a chance on the offensive end, but the jumper from Taijah Campbell fell just short.

Panousis led the Hokies with 21 points. Hannah Young added a career-high 17 points and grabbed nine rebounds. Uju Ugoka added 11 points.

Ugoka leads Tech on the year, averaging 19.1 points and 9.7 rebounds. She is fourth in the conference in scoring and third in rebounding. Panousis is notching 11.8 points and chipping in 4.0 assists while Monet Tellier is adding 11.2 points, 6.0 rebounds and 4.0 assists

The Cavaliers
Virginia fell to Georgia Tech, 95-76, the last time out on Friday, Feb. 14 in Atlanta, Ga.

UVA fell behind early and trailed 50-35 at the break. In the second half, the Cavaliers came out and connected for 41 points, but were unable to overcome the defecit.

Sarah Imovbioh tallied 21 points for the ‘Hoos. Lexie Gerson added 18 points and grabbed eight rebounds. Faith Randolph dropped in 13 points and Ataira Franklin chipped in 11 points.

Franklin leads Virginia on the season with 13.4 points per game. Randolph is adding 12.3 ppg and Imovbioh is tallying 11.8 ppg and grabbing 8.2 rebounds per game. Kelsey Wolfe rounds out the double-digit scoring for the Cavaliers with 10.5 ppg.

The Series
The series against UVA marks one of the oldest in program history with the two teams meeting every season except one (1991-92) since 1976. Virginia holds the 42-8 lead in the all-time series and the Hokies will be looking to snap a 15-game skid against the Cavaliers after losing the last three contests by a combined 14 points.

Earlier this season, the Hokies led 36-26 at the break, but the Cavaliers rallied back in the second half to secure the 67-60 decision in Blacksburg. Ugoka had 24 points for the Hokies while Tellier and Panousis added 10 points each. UVA was led by Franklin with 23 points. Wolfe added 12 points and Randolph tallied 10. Imovbioh pulled down a game-high 14 rebounds.

Up Next: The Hokies will return to Cassell Coliseum to face ACC newcomer Pittsburgh on Thursday, Feb. 20. Game time is set for 7 p.m. and will be aired on ESPN3.
