Virginia Tech hosts No. 14/17 NC State
Hokies to face Wolfpack at 2 p.m. on Sunday

BLACKSBURG, Va. - The Virginia Tech women's basketball team will be back on the court when the Hokies host No. 14/17 NC State on Sunday, Feb. 9. Game time is set for 2 p.m. at Cassell Coliseum. The contest marks the Hokies annual Play4Kay pink game for breast cancer awareness.

The Hokies
In their last game, the Hokies fell to Syracuse, 73-48, on Feb. 6 at the Carrier Dome in Syracuse, N.Y.

Syracuse took the early lead in the game and was up 43-22 at the half after the Hokies struggled from the field in the opening half, shooting just 20.8 percent. Tech kept it closer in the second half, allowing the Orange 30 points while tallying 26 points on the offensive side.

Uju Ugoka led the Hokies with her 12th double-double of the season, recording 15 points and 12 rebounds. Vanessa Panousis added 13 points.

Ugoka leads Tech on the year, averaging 19.4 points and 10.2 rebounds. The senior is one of three players in the Atlantic Coast Conference currently averaging a double-double. She is second in the conference in scoring and third in rebounding. Panousis is notching 11.2 points and chipping in 4.0 assists while Monet Tellier is adding 11.0 points, 6.1 rebounds and 3.9 assists

The Wolfpack
NC State held off Wake Forest, 74-69, on Feb. 6 at Reynolds Coliseum in Raleigh, N.C. The Wolfpack is ranked 14th in the AP Poll and 17th in the Coaches’ Poll.

In a back-and-forth game that featured 10 ties and six lead changes, the Wolfpack was able to overpower the Demon Deacons for the win. Wake Forest held the lead early in the second half, but NC State was able to come back behind with an 8-0 run to go on top. The Wolfpack was able to hold the lead through the rest of the game, but Wake had a chance at the end, trailing by three with 30 seconds to go. A three-pointer bounced off the rim with 11 seconds remaining and NC State’s Kody Burke was able to sink two from the line in the final seconds to secure the Pack win.

Markeisha Gatling tallied 19 points for the Wolfpack. Myisha Goodwin-Coleman added 16 points while Len’Nique Brown and Kody Burke notched 14 points each. Burke also grabbed a game-high 11 rebounds.

Gatling leads the Pack on the season with 16.9 points per game. Burke is adding 14.8 ppg and Goodwin-Coleman is chipping in 10.8 ppg. Gatling also leads NC State on the boards with 6.8 rebounds per game while Burke pulls down 6.5 rpg. Brown has handed out 103 assists on the season.

The Series
The Hokies are looking for their first win in the series against NC State as the Wolfpack holds the 13-0 advantage since the two teams met for the first time during the 1980-81 season. The two teams met last year in Raleigh, where NC State claimed the 58-39 decision. Tellier led the Hokies with 13 points. Goodwin-Coleman added 12 points for the Wolfpack.

Up Next: The Hokies will travel to Wake Forest on Thursday, Feb. 13 to face the Demon Deacons in a televised game on RSN. Game time is set for 8:30 p.m. at Lawrence Joel Veterans Memorial Coliseum (LJVM) in Winston-Salem, N.C.
