BLACKSBURG, Va. - The Virginia Tech women's basketball team will look to avenge an earlier season loss as it hosts ACC foe Boston College on Sunday, Feb. 2. Game time is set for 2 p.m. at Cassell Coliseum.

The Hokies
In their last game, the Hokies fell to No. 2/2 Notre Dame, 74-48, on Jan. 30 at Purcell Pavilion in Notre Dame, Ind.

The Hokies kept it close in the opening half, trailing by four, 22-18, with six minutes to go until the break, but the Irish closed out the half with a 15-1 run to take a 37-19 lead in to the intermission. Notre Dame continued to control the game in the second half with the Hokies getting no closer than 24 late in the game.

Vanessa Panousis led the Hokies with 12 points while Uju Ugoka added 10 points for Tech.

Ugoka leads Tech on the season, averaging 19.7 points and 10.2 rebounds. The senior is one of three players in the Atlantic Coast Conference currently averaging a double-double. She is second in the conference in scoring and third in rebounding. Monet Tellier is adding 11.0 points, 6.2 rebounds and 3.8 assists while Panousis is notching 10.8 points and chipping in 4.2 assists.

The Eagles
Boston College battled Pittsburgh the last time out on Jan. 30, falling to the Panthers, 67-65 on a last second shot. BC held a 37-27 lead at halftime but the Panthers outscored the Eagles 40-28 in the second half. The two teams were tied with 44 seconds left in the game with BC holding possession, but the Eagles were unable to come up with points on the drive, giving the Panthers the chance to hit a runner in the lane with three seconds to go. Boston College’s half-court attempt hit the back of the rim at the buzzer.

Nicole Boudreau and Lauren Engeln had 15 points each for BC. Kelly Hughes came off the bench to add 14 points and Kristen Doherty rounded out the double-digit scoring with 12 points.

Doherty leads the Eagles on the season with 13.6 points per game and has a team-high 65 assists. Katie Zenevitch is adding 11.2 points and grabbing a team-best 6.5 rebounds per game. Boudreau is chipping in 10.5 ppg.

The Series
The series is tied at 10-10 after the Hokies fell to the Eagles, 70-63, to open ACC play on Jan. 5 in Chestnut Hill, Mass. Both teams shot over 46 percent from the field, but the Eagles connected on 10 three-pointers in the game while the Hokies hit five.

Ugoka had 23 points and eight rebounds for the Hokies and Tellier added 17 points for Tech. Panousis handed out 10 assists. Boudreau and Doherty had 16 points each in the game for the Eagles. Zenevitch added 13 points and Hughes tallied 12.

Up Next: The Hokies will be back on the road, traveling to ACC newcomer Syracuse on Thursday, Feb. 6. Game time is set for 7 p.m. at the Carrier Dome.
