Hokies to host No. 3 Duke
Women's basketball to face Blue Devils at noon on RSN

BLACKSBURG, Va. - The Virginia Tech women's basketball team is set to host No. 3 Duke on Sunday, Jan. 19 at noon in Cassell Coliseum. The game will be broadcast on Regional Sports Network (RSN).

The Hokies
In the Hokies last game, Tech was edged 64-62 by Miami on Jan. 12 at Cassell Coliseum.

The Hokies led throughout the first half and took a 31-25 advantage into the break. Virginia Tech continued to hold the lead and was up 54-46 with just under eight minutes to go in the second half, but Miami went on a 9-0 run to go up by one with 5:25 to play. Miami took its largest lead with 1:08 to go as the Hurricanes held a 63-58 advantage. The Hokies then responded with back-to-back baskets, cutting it to one with 16 seconds to go. Miami made one of two free throws to go up by two and give the Hokies a chance, but Tech was unable to convert in the final seconds as the ‘Canes held on for the win.

Monet Tellier led the Hokies’ offense on the day with 17 points and 10 rebounds to record her third double-double of the season. Uju Ugoka and Vanessa Panousis added 15 points each.

Ugoka leads Tech on the season, averaging 19.4 points and 10.3 rebounds. The senior is one of three players in the Atlantic Coast Conference currently averaging a double-double. She is second in the conference in scoring and third in rebounding. Panousis is adding 11.3 points and chipping in 4.8 assists, while Tellier is averaging 11.1 points, 6.4 rebounds and 4.0 assists.

The Blue Devils
Duke defeated Virginia, 90-58, the last time out on Thursday, Jan. 16 in Charlottesville.

Five players tallied double-digits for the Blue Devils, with Tricia Liston leading the charge with 21 points and 12 rebounds. Elizabeth Williams added 17 points while Richa Jackson chipped in 16. Oderah Chidom tallied 11 points and grabbed nine rebounds. Alexis Jones rounded out the double-digit scoring with 10 points, while handing out six assists.

Liston leads the Blue Devils on the season with 16.9 points per game, while Williams is adding 13.5 points and pulling down 7.2 rebounds. Jones is tallying 12.1 ppg and Haley Peters is recording 11.8 ppg and averaging 7.6 rebounds per game.

The Series
Duke leads the all-time series, 21-2, and won the last meeting between the two teams on Feb. 14, 2013 by a score of 77-33 in Cassell Coliseum. Former Hokie Alyssa Fenyn tallied seven points for Tech. Peters and Williams each had 25 points for the Blue Devils in the game.

The last Virginia Tech win over Duke was on Nov. 17, 1998, when the Hokies cliamed a 72-70 decision over the Blue Devils in Durham, N.C. Duke was ranked No. 6 at the time.
