

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Virginia Tech senior forward Uju Ugoka was named the Atlantic Coast Conference Women’s Basketball Player of the Week as announced Monday afternoon by the league office and voted on by the Blue Ribbon Panel.
Ugoka averaged 25.5 points and 10.5 rebounds, while shooting 63.9 percent from the floor in a 1-1 week for Virginia Tech. Ugoka recorded back-to-back double-doubles with 32 points and 11 rebounds in the Hokies’ Big Ten/ACC Challenge game at Indiana, and 19 points and 10 rebounds in their win over No. 25 Michigan State.
Against Indiana, Ugoka scored 13 straight points to help Virginia Tech climb from a 19-point second-half deficit to come within three points in the final minutes of the game. The Lagos, Nigeria native is just the fifth women’s basketball player at Virginia Tech to tally 30-plus points and 10-plus rebounds in a single game. This is Ugoka’s second player of the week honor of her career.
Kaela Davis of Georgia Tech earned Rookie of the Week honors after averaging 22.5 points and 10.0 rebounds. It is her second honor of the season.
Ugoka and the Hokies will be back on the court on Sunday, Dec. 15 when they host USC Upstate. Game time is set for 2 p.m. in Cassell Coliseum.
