The Hokies
The last time out, Virginia Tech defeated Presbyterian, 55-33 at home. With the win, Head Coach Dennis Wolff recorded his 300th career win.
The Hokies controlled the game from the beginning, holding the Blue Hose to single-digit points until 1:53 left in the first half. Tech led 31-11 at the break. In the second half, Presbyterian picked up some momentum, cutting the Hokies’ lead down to 11 early in the period, but Tech answered with a 12-0 run to put the game out of reach for good.
Uju Ugoka and Taijah Campbell led the Hokies as each recorded double-doubles in the game. Ugoka posted 12 points and 12 boards while Campbell added 10 points and 12 rebounds. Hannah Young also tallied double-digit rebounds with 10. It was the first time in over 20 years that three Virginia Tech players had pulled down double-digit rebounds in the same game.
Ugoka leads Tech on the season, averaging 16.6 points and 10.6 rebounds per game. She is one of four players in the ACC currently averaging a double-double and ranks ninth in scoring and second in rebounding. Panousis is adding 12.9 points per game while Monet Tellier is tallying 10.4 ppg and handing out 4.7 assists per game to rank third in the league.
The Hoosiers
Indiana defeated USC Upstate, 87-38 in its last outing. Five players scored in double-digits for the Hoosiers with Taylor Agler leading the charge with 16 points. Larryn Brooks added 14 points and Kaila Hulls dropped in 12. Sasha Chaplin and Alexis Gassion tallied 10 points each. Tabith Gerardot led on the boards with a game-high 10 rebounds.
The Hoosiers hold a 3-3 record in the Big Ten/ACC Challenge and picked up the 52-49 win last year against Clemson. Aulani Sinclair, a senior last season, led Indiana in the game with 23 points.
Brooks is leading the team with 17.4 points per game. Gerardot is adding 11.0 and Chaplin is tallying 10.6 ppg. Gerardot is leading on the boards with 6.9 rebounds per game while Brooks is dishing out 4.4 assists per game.
The Series
Virginia Tech and Indiana have never met in women’s basketball. The Hokies are 7-15 all-time against teams from the Big Ten Conference. Tech holds a 2-4 record in the Big Ten/ACC Challenge since first participating in the event during the 2007-08 season. However, the Hokies won the most recent challenge game, defeating Wisconsin last year 47-38 in Blacksburg. Tellier dropped in 17 points, grabbed six rebounds, dished out nine assists and picked up three steals for the Hokies.
Up Next: The Hokies return home to face their second Big Ten opponent of the week, hosting Michigan State on Saturday, Dec. 7. Game time is set for 2 p.m. at Cassell Coliseum.
