Virginia Tech takes to the road to face Old Dominion
The Hokies will play the Lady Monarchs on Monday at 7 p.m.

BLACKSBURG, Va. - The Virginia Tech women's basketball team will take to the road for its second game of the season, traveling to Norfolk, Va. to face Old Dominion on Monday, Nov. 11. Game time is slated for 7 p.m. at the Ted Constant Center.

The Hokies
Virginia Tech opened the season with a decisive 84-32 win over Howard as six players hit double-digit points for the Hokies. Freshman Maddison Penn led the charge, tallying 13 points. Sophomore Hannah Young posted her first career double-double with 11 points and 11 rebounds. Taijah Campbell Nia Evans and Monet Tellier added 12 points each while Uju Ugoka tallied 11.

Tellier and freshman Vanessa Panousis dished out six assists each and Campbell recorded two blocks and a steal for the defensive side.

The 84 points scored by the Hokies marked the most points scored by Tech since a win over Alcorn State on Dec. 29, 2010. It also marked the most points scored in a season opener since the Hokies defeated High Point 103-64 to start the 2007-08 season. With the win the Hokes improved to 29-9 in season openers.

The Lady Monarchs
Old Dominion enters its inaugural year in Conference USA. The Lady Monarchs were picked to finish sixth in the CUSA preseason poll and Shea Kelley was tabbed to the preseason all-conference team.ODU return four starters from last season’s team that finished the season 19-11 and earned a bid to the WNIT after finishing fourth in the CAA.

The Lady Monarchs claimed a 97-67 win over Delaware State to open the season on Saturday. Stephanie Gardner led ODU with 21 points. Kelley connected for 13 points while tallying 12 rebounds, six assists, five steals and two blocks. Chelisa Painter notched 11 points and Galaisha Goodhope recorded 10 points.

The Series
This marks the 28th meeting between the two teams in a series that dates back to the Hokies inaugural season, 1976-77. Old Dominion holds the 20-7 lead in the series and won last season, 55-35 in Blacksburg. Nia Evans and Porschia Hadley had eight points each for the Hokies. Top returner for the Lady Monarchs is Shae Kelley who tallied 14 points.

The Hokies won the last meeting in Norfolk, however, with a 77-65 win on Nov. 11, 2011. Tellier knocked down 29 points for Tech. Ashley Betz-White recorded 22 for ODU.

Up Next: The Hokies will return to Cassell Coliseum to host the SEC’s Florida on Thursday, Nov. 14. Game time is slated for 7 p.m.
