BLACKSBURG, Va. – The Virginia Tech women's basketball team will host eight non-conference games in 2013-14, including five teams that saw postseason action last season. Highlighting the schedule are home contests against Michigan State, Florida and in-state foe Richmond.
Also on the Hokies' docket for the 2013-14 season are Michigan State and Hampton, both of whom made trips to the NCAA Tournament last year. Richmond, Old Dominion and Florida all competed in the WNIT, with the Gators reaching the Final Four of that tournament.
“Last year we played the fifth hardest schedule nationally,” said Virginia Tech Head Coach Dennis Wolff. “We are playing another extremely challenging non-conference schedule this season which is highlighted by several teams that made the postseason last year. We are looking forward to hosting several of those tournament teams as Florida, Michigan State and Richmond come to play at Cassell.”
Tech will start the season on Nov. 9 at home against Howard, before traveling to Norfolk, Va. to face ODU on Nov. 11. The Hokies return home on Nov. 14 against Florida and will remain at home to face Bucknell on Nov. 17. Virginia Tech will travel to Hofstra on Nov. 23 prior to a home bout on Nov. 27 against Richmond.
Presbyterian makes the trip to Blacksburg on Nov. 30. Tech will then be back on the road on Dec. 4 to face Indiana as part of the 2013 Big Ten/ACC Challenge. The Hokies will then play host to Michigan State on Dec. 7 before heading into the exam break.
Virginia Tech will host USC Upstate on Dec. 15 and will make the short trip to Radford on Dec. 21 before taking a few days off for the holidays. The Hokies will conclude their non-conference schedule with a pair of games around New Year's Eve, hosting Robert Morris on Dec. 29 and traveling to Hampton on Jan. 1.
The ACC schedule is expected to be released in early September.
