Virginia Tech adds two guards for 2013-14
Panousis and Maulupe join two from the early signing period

BLACKSBURG, Va. – Virginia Tech head coach Dennis Wolff announced the signing of two guards to letters of intent for the 2013-14 academic year. Vanessa Panousis and Serafina Maulupe will join the Hokies in the Fall 2013.

Panousis, a 5-7 guard from Sydney, Australia, has competed on the international stage as a member of the 2012 Australian U17 World Championship team that finished fifth in the FIBA event. She led the team averaging 11 points per game as the Australian team finished with a 5-3 record. In addition, Panousis grabbed 5.5 rebounds and handed out 2.0 assists per game. Panousis attended Brigidine College Randwick and competed for the Sydney Comets.

“Vanessa gives us a true point guard,” said Wolff. “She has terrific understanding of how to run a team.”

Maulupe, a 5-8 combo guard from Vista Murrieta High School (Calif.), finished her career with 1,617 points to finish second all-time in her school’s record book. She set the record for number of three pointers made in her four years as a starter at VMHS. During her senior season, Maulupe averaged 21 points, 4.5 rebounds and 3.3 steals per game.

“Serafina is a proven winner,” Wolff said. “She can play either guard spot and is a good three point shooter.”

Panousis and Maulupe join Breanna Brown and Samantha Hill who signed during the fall signing period.
