EAST LANSING, Mich. – The Virginia Tech women’s basketball team fell to Michigan State, 57-29, on Sunday afternoon at the Breslin Center in East Lansing, Mich.

Aerial Wilson had eight points for the Hokies (1-2) while Alyssa Fenyn added seven. Taijah Campbell grabbed six rebounds for Tech.

Jasmine Hines dropped in 12 points for Michigan State (3-0). Jasmine Thomas, Klarissa Bell and Becca Mills had 10 points each. Courtney Schiffauer pulled down nine boards for the Spartans.

Both teams got off to a slow start in the opening half as the Hokies led 11-10 at the 9:03 mark. Michigan State went on a run to break open the scoring to go on top 16-11 with 5:24 to go in the half. Tech cut the lead down to two (16-14) off a jumper and free throw from Monet Tellier, but the Spartans responded with 14-2 run to close out the half and take a 30-16 lead in to the break.

The Hokies cut the gap down to 13 coming out of the break, but would get no closer in the second half. Michigan State took its largest lead of the game at the 6:30 mark as the Spartans held a 55-25 advantage, en route to claiming the win.

Virginia Tech shot 25.6 percent (11-of-43) from the field, including 4-of-10 (40 percent) from outside the arc. Michigan State knocked down 42.3 percent from the field, hitting 22-of-52. MSU held a slight 34-33 advantage on the boards. The Spartans scored 23 points off of 21 Virginia Tech turnovers while the Hokies had five off of eight turnovers.

The Hokies will be back on the court on Sunday, Nov. 25 when they return to Cassell Coliseum to host George Washington in a 3 p.m. game.
