GREENSBORO, N.C. – Virginia Tech sophomore guard Monet Tellier has been named the Atlantic Coast Conference Women’s Basketball Player of the Week for the week ending Sunday, Jan. 29.
Tellier led the Hokies to a 75-69 win over No. 8/7 Maryland with a career-high tying 31 points, including a career-high five three pointers while shooting 10-of-11 from the free throw line. It is the second time this year Tellier has hit the 31-point mark, and she is one of two ACC players to top 30 points twice this season. The win was the first time Tech has recorded a victory against a top-eight team since 1998. She sparked a run with back-to-back threes that helped the Hokies push past the Terrapins. The sophomore guard turned in one of her best free throw shooting performance weeks this season, hitting 90.5 percent (19-21) in a three game span. Tellier was also a top scorer for the Hokies against Miami and NC State with 18 and 16 points, respectively.
Clemson’s Nikki Dixon was named the Rookie of the Week after averaging 14.5 points, 5.0 rebounds, 4.0 steals, and 2.0 assists against No. 5 Duke and No. 24 Georgia Tech.
The Hokies will be back in action on Friday, Feb. 3 when they host Clemson at 6:30 p.m. in Cassell Coliseum. The game will also be broadcast on Regional Sports Network (RSN).
