Last weekend, my team was fortunate enough to spend our Saturday night with the Hardwood Club at the German Club Manor in Blacksburg. This night was a special event for the girls and me because we were able to socialize with our biggest fans! People from all over the country came to Blacksburg to spend their time with us that evening.

The night began with a silent auction in which members walked around and bid on items like Hokie gear and memorabilia. During this time, we were able to meet many alumni and fans who have been incredibly supportive of the women’s basketball program for many years. At the end of the silent auction we were treated to a delicious dinner catered by Texas Roadhouse. Yum yum yum! I can honestly say I am still full from all that barbeque!

I was lucky enough to sit with some friends and fans, Jesse and Alan. They are actually natives of northern Virginia! And believe it or not, Alan is from my hometown Leesburg, Va.! We went to the same elementary and high school. What a small world! It was such a fun and entertaining dinner and they made me feel so welcome!

After dinner, there was a live auction in which the girls and I presented various bigger-ticket items that fans could bid on. Such items included a hand-painted picture of the Hokie Bird, a trip with the team, and senior players’ jerseys. The girls totally loved the spotlight, especially Reka Hall! She worked that stage better than any of us! And during the auction, it was a very touching moment to watch my fellow seniors, Aerial Wilson and Alyssa Fenyn, have their jerseys auctioned off as well as mine. It really made me appreciate how lucky I am to not only call these players my teammates but also my friends.

It was such a positive and fun night spent! Being able to meet so many Hokie fans and alumni truly put into perspective how big this program is and what a blessing it is to be a part of it. This night demonstrated to me that the Virginia Tech basketball program is not just about the X’s and O’s, but rather the Hokie family that comes along with it. Go Hokies!
