The Locker Room
Women's Basketball: Behind The Scenes

When we aren’t on the court, we Hokies spend a lot time together in the locker room. Our team meets there before every lift, practice and game. And every girl has special things they keep in their locker and their very own way of staying organized.

Freshman Lauren Evans has her practice and game gear always at the ready. She keeps her neon orange basketball shoes in her locker. These shoes are of incredible personal value to her. Last year when she officially committed to playing basketball at Virginia Tech, she bought her very first pair of orange kicks to represent her school! Those flashy shoes really show off her personality and her Hokie pride! Lauren and her shoes fit perfectly into our Hokie Nation.

Senior Rachel Nichols’ locker may look a little chaotic, but Rachel considers this “organized.” She knows exactly where all her gear is under all that clutter. She keeps her pink basketball shoes in the bottom cabinet and only wears them on game day for shoot around. She believes that these shoes bring good luck to her and the team.

As for me, I like to keep my locker as organized as possible. All my clothes are folded neatly on my top shelf, and my hair equipment is kept on the bottom. I’ve decorated my locker so it is very personal to me. I have special Bible verses as well as my favorite yoga kittens calendar on the door. I have also a picture of my biggest fan, my Granddaddy Clay. All these things make me feel at home on the team and motivate me to play each day.

Even though we organize our lockers differently, we come into the locker room with the same goal; to win. The locker room is the place where we get ready and focused to face our next opponent. It’s where we begin to work together to get better every day.

Go Hokies!
