Editor’s note: Every Wednesday throughout the offseason, we’ll catch up with volleyball student-athletes for five questions.
Rhana Mitchell | Sr. | DS | Peachtree City, Ga.
Q: This spring you have been doing social media for Tech's volleyball team. Did you ever think during your playing days that you would be doing that?
MITCHELL: “Initially, I never knew what I wanted to do. I think this past fall semester it was something that I started thinking about it more and more and I realized that it was something that I was passionate about.”
Q: What has been your approach as far as videos you are taking on the volleyball accounts for Instagram and Snapchat?
MITCHELL: “My approach so far has been to catch great moments during practice and competition. I also wanted to utilize the features that Instagram and Snapchat give you like incorporating gifs, stickers, filters and different types of fonts.”
Q: Do you have a favorite memory from one of your videos you took this spring for one of the accounts?
MITCHELL: “One of my favorite memories from one of the videos I took was when I went to the teams workouts one morning. The girls were all laying in a line stretching and I used one of the filters on Snapchat and took a video of all their faces smiling and laughing. It was a cute moment that I thought people would enjoy.”
Q: Switching to the court, what was your favorite memory at Tech with being on the team?
MITCHELL: “One of my favorite on-the-court moments was when we beat UVA in a five-set match at its place! It was one of those games that had a lot of back-and-forth moments and the anticipation and adrenaline was crazy. The best feeling was after we won that last point, everyone was cheering and laughing. It was one of the highlights of my time here.”
Q: Once your time in Blacksburg is all said and done, what would you like to do with your degree?
MITCHELL: “I would like to continue working with social media, whether I continue in sports or something else. I’m in a class right now that focuses on social media analytics that I find interesting, it has also opened up my interest in social media marketing and PR.”
