GREENSBORO, N.C. – Virginia Tech Volleyball outside hitter Ester Talamazzi was tabbed ACC Freshman of the Week after her performance at the A-State Invitational, as announced by the league office Monday afternoon.
Talamazzi, who owns the second-most kills on the Hokies’ squad with 69, earns the award following her MVP and All-Tournament Team showing in Jonesboro, Arkansas.
The Italy native tallied 38 kills, 28 digs and hit a .217 clip against Arkansas State, Ole Miss and SMU, leading Tech to its second-straight tournament title.
Her best match of the weekend came against Ole Miss, when she recorded career highs in kills (14) and digs (16) to post her first-ever double-double.
Notre Dame junior outside hitter Rebecca Nunge and Miami redshirt junior setter Haley Templeton were named this week’s ACC Volleyball Co-Players of the Week.
With the honor, Talamazzi joins fellow teammate Kaity Smith as the second Hokie to garner the award, marking back-to-back weeks Tech has been presented the ACC Freshman of the Week honor.
The Hokies will enter the third weekend of the season in Huntington, West Virginia, as Tech will compete in a four-team tournament made up of Marshall, Maryland and Toledo on Sept. 8-9.
