Talamazzi, Thomas wrap up 2017 recruiting class

BLACKSBURG – First-year head coach Jill Lytle Wilson has officially announced the additions of Ester Talamazzi and Kylie Thomas to the Virginia Tech volleyball program. The duo completes the Hokies’ five-player recruiting class that will enter as freshmen in the fall of 2017.

Talamazzi, an outside hitter, comes to Blacksburg from Campo Ligure, Italy while Thomas will arrive from Sterling, Virginia and Potomac Falls High School.

“Our staff is excited to welcome Ester and Kylie to our 2017 recruiting class” Wilson said. “They'll bring depth to our ball control and both have a very natural feel for the game. Ester and Kylie each have a great passion to play for Virginia Tech and we are thrilled to have them in our program.”

Talmazzi and Thomas join Kaity Smith, Marisa Cerchio and Kai Young in the class of 2017. Smith, a PrepVolleyball “Senior Ace” out of Union, Kentucky, was recently named city player of the year by Cincinnati.com after a stellar senior campaign.

An athletic hitter who could see playing time immediately on the outside … Coached by Luca Cristofani … Played a key role on her club team that took home the 2013-14 U18 National Championship.

Wilson on Talmazzi: “Ester joined our program in January for the spring semester and had an immediate impact in the gym with her volleyball IQ and her great arm. She has a well-balanced game from her international experience and will bring an important proficiency to the outside hitter position.”

Wilson on Thomas: “Kylie moves easily and efficiently on the volleyball court and reads extremely well as a defender. She brings a calm demeanor and stability in the back row. Our staff looks forward to having her in of our program and for her to have the opportunity to represent her home state.”
