Owens named first team All-ACC
The Orlando native earns her third all-conference team accolade in four seasons
November 28, 2016
GREENSBORO, N.C. – Senior outside hitter Lindsey Owens has been voted first team All-ACC by the league’s coaches, giving her four posteason conference accolades in her four seasons as a Hokie, the conference office announced on Monday.
In conference play, Owens hit .251 and ranked sixth in the ACC with 3.70 kills per set and ninth with 4.07 points per set. Owens also ranked sixth in the conference this season with 3.50 kills per set in all matches. She finished 2016 with 15 double-doubles, four 20+ kill performances and set a career-high with a .643 hitting percentage (18-0-28) in a 3-0 win over UMBC on August 27. Owens is also the only ACC student-athlete to collect at least 400 kills and 200 digs in each of the last three seasons.
Owens joins Felicia Willoughby (2007-10), Cara Baarendse (2009-12) and Lisa Pikalek (1989-92) as the only four-time all-conference honorees in program history. Owens was an All-Freshman team pick in 2013, a second team selection last season and a two-time first team honoree in 2014 and 2016. Willoughby, Baarendse and Owens were four-time honorees in the ACC while Pikalek earned her accolades in the Metro Conference.
Owens will leave Blacksburg ranked fourth in the program record book with 1,514 kills, fifth with 3.28 kills per set, sixth with 1,309 digs and 11th with 115 service aces. After tallying her 1,000th career dig on Sept. 2 against Temple, she became only the sixth Hokie with 1,000 kills and 1,000 digs in a career. She was joined later in the season by classmate Amanda McKinzie who joined the 1,000/1,000 club in the Hokies’ final match of the season against Virginia.
