Hokies hit the road to face Boston College and Syracuse

McKinzie and Raffety continue to close in on career milestones

BLACKSBURG – After splitting its final home matches of the season last the weekend, the Virginia Tech volleyball team will play its final four matches on the road starting with Boston College on Friday at 7:30 p.m. The Hokies will then travel to Syracuse where they will face the Orange at 1 p.m. on Sunday.

Both matches will be streamed live on the WatchESPN platform via the ACC Digital Network.

The Hokies are coming off a 1-1 weekend where they topped Wake Forest on Senior Day, 3-0, in the final home matches for Katie Krueger, Amanda McKinzie and Lindsey Owens. Owens had a team-high 22 digs to go along with 15 kills and a .394 hitting percentage while McKinzie posted her 10th double-double of the season.

The senior duo, both four-year starters for the Hokies, have left their marks on the program. Owens is one of only three players in program history, Heather Berglund (1990-93) and Lisa Pikalek (1989-92) to rank in the top six in both digs (1,260) and kills (1,458).

McKinzie, who has 1,117 career digs, needs 50 more kills to reach 1,000 for her career. If she does go over 1,000 kill, she will join Owens as one of seven players in program history to collect 1,000 kills and 1,000 digs at Tech.

Freshman libero Carol Raffety is also getting close to program record as she is 52 digs away from tying Amanda Cloyd’s freshman digs record of 478. Raffety currently ranks sixth in the ACC with 4.35 digs per set.

The Hokies have won two of their last three matches, both wins Of the Hokies five wins in conference play this season, four have been sweeps.
