Hokies hit the road this weekend to face Georgia Tech and Clemson

BLACKSBURG – Kicking off a road-heavy homestretch of the 2016 season, the Virginia Tech volleyball travels this weekend to take on Georgia Tech and Clemson. The Hokies (8-15, 3-9 ACC) will face the Yellow Jackets on Friday, Nov. 4, at 7 p.m. in Atlanta before heading to Clemson for a 1 p.m. match on Sunday, Nov. 6.

Live stats will be available for Friday’s match while Sunday’s matchup with the Tigers will streamed on the WatchESPN platform.

Tech will play six of its final eight matches on the road starting this weekend. Duke and Wake Forest will visit Cassell Coliseum on Nov. 11 and Nov. 13, respectively, before heading to Boston College, Syracuse, Pitt and Virginia to finish the season. Last season, the Hokies went 5-3 in its final eight matches and finished the campaign with four-consecutive victories.

Tech split its first meetings with Georgia Tech (19-5, 10-2 ACC) and Clemson (6-17, 1-10 ACC) at Cassell earlier this season. The Hokies topped Clemson, 3-0, on Sept. 23 before falling to the Yellow Jackets, 3-1, Sept. 25. Senior Amanda McKinzie had a double-double and a career-best four service aces in the win over the Tigers and later hit .308 with 18 kills and 12 digs against Georgia Tech.

Last weekend saw the return of sophomore setter Rhegan Mitchell, who had missed the previous 16 matches with an injury. Mitchell picked up five assists and two digs late in the third set against NC State on Sunday.

SCOUTING THE OPPONENT
• Setter Rebecca Martin leads Georgia Tech team with 8.64 assists per set and also hits at a .412 clip.
• The Yellow Jackets are 8-1 at home this season with its lone loss coming against No. 12 North Carolina, 3-0.
• The Hokies’ only victory at Clemson came on Nov. 23, 2005, a 3-0 win for Tech.
• Leah Perri is the centerpiece of the Tigers’ offense as she averages 3.56 kills per set and is tied for the team lead with 20 aces.
