Hokies host No. 8 North Carolina and NC State this weekend
McKinzie eyes up another career milestone in her final season at Tech

BLACKSBURG – The Virginia Tech volleyball team welcomes No. 8 North Carolina and NC State to Carilion Court at Cassell Coliseum this weekend after the Hokies dropped two tough matches last week to open a four-match homestand.

The Hokies will face the Tar Heels at 7 p.m. on Friday before taking on the Wolfpack at 1 p.m. on Sunday. Both matches will be streamed live on the WatchESPN platform. Friday marks the annual “Haunted Cassell” match where there will be a costume parade, trick-or-treat, Halloween and fall crafts and more taking place on the concourse of Cassell. All fans are encouraged to wear a costume.

Senior Amanda McKinzie carried Tech in both facets of the game with 28 digs and 24 kills against Louisville and Notre Dame last time weekend McKinzie also picked up her seventh double-double of the season in the loss to the the Irish where she hit .262 with 16 kills and 14 digs.

The Hokies last beat North Carolina on Nov. 18, 2011, a 3-1 win at Cassell Coliseum. Since then, the Tar Heels have won its last seven meetings with the Hokies. Tech has dominated the all-time series with the Wolfpack where the Hokies have won four of the last five meetings. The Hokies are also 11-2 all-time at Cassell Coliseum against NC State.

Junior setter Mandy Powers currently ranks 10th in the ACC with 8.02 assists per set and ranks eighth with 9.61 assists in conference play. Also among the ACC statistical leaders is freshman Carol Raffety, whose 332 digs is the fourth-most in a single season by a freshman in program history.

SCOUTING THE OPPONENTS
• The Tar Heels have won 10-straight matches dating back to a loss to TCU on Sept. 17.
• UNC leads the ACC with a .261 hitting percentage while holding opponent’s to a .161 clip.
• The Wolfpack have won three of its last four matches heading into the weekend.
• Junior Julia Brown ranks third in the ACC with 4.10 kills per set and 4.51 points per frame.

McKINZIE TRYING TO REACH 1,000 CAREER KILLS
•Senior Amanda McKinzie is quietly approaching 1,000 career kills as her career in Blacksburg comes to a close.
•With 10 matches remaining, McKinzie currently sits at 871 kills for her career after tallying 24 kills over two matches last weekend.
•McKinzie became the 16th player in program history to eclipse 1,000 career digs in Tech’s 3-0 win over Wake Forest on Oct. 7.

RAFFETY “DIGS” RECORDS
•Freshman Carol Raffety continues to climb up the freshman digs list and now sits in sole possession of fourth with 332.
•The record is held by Amanda Cloyd who posted 478 digs in 2004.
•Raffety currently ranks sixth in the ACC with 4.26 digs per set.
