Hokies wrap up four-match road swing at No. 15 Florida State and Miami
Tech has registered three sweeps in ACC play this season

BLACKSBURG -- The Virginia Tech volleyball team continues its four-match road trip this weekend in the Sunshine State as the Hokies take on No. 15 Florida State at 7 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 14, before heading to Miami for a 1 p.m. match on Sunday, Oct. 16.

Live stats are available for Sunday’s match against the Seminoles while Tech’s clash with the Hurricanes will streamed on WatchESPN via ACC Network Extra. The Hokies’ 1-1 weekend split last week included a 3-0 sweep of Wake Forest, its third sweep of an ACC foe this season.

Playing on the right side for the first time this season, senior Lindsey Owens averaged 5.29 kills per set and hit .282 over two matches. Owens hit .475 with 22 kills, nine digs and four blocks in the win over the Demon Deacons.

Junior Cara Cunningham continued her impressive defense at the net last weekend where she tallied four blocks against Wake Forest and five rejections against Duke. Cunningham now ranks fourth in the ACC and 25th in the nation with 1.39 blocks per set and is nine rejections away from matching her blocks total from last season.

In the win over the Deacs, senior Amanda McKinzie, who has 1,021 career digs entering Friday, became the 16th player in program history to surpass 1,000 digs. With 14 matches to play, freshman Carol Raffety ranks fifth in Tech’s freshman record book with 288 digs.

SCOUTING THE OPPONENT
• Florida State’s Mara Green, Melanie Keil and Milica Kubura each rank in the top 10 in the ACC in hitting percentage.
• The Seminoles have been ranked in its last 11 meetings with Tech, going 2-9 in that span.
• Miami is one of the ACC’s top teams with the serve as the ‘Canes rank third with 1.36 per set.
• Olga Strantzali leads the Hurricanes and the conference with 4.62 kills per set and .33 service aces per set.

McKINZIE GOES OVER 1,000 DIGS
•Senior Amanda McKinzie became only the 16th player in program history to collect 1,000 career digs after tallying 14 in Tech’s 3-0 over Wake Forest on Oct. 7.
•McKinzie is averaging 3.29 digs per set this season and posses a team-best 96.2 receive percentage.

OWENS JOINS MORE EXCLUSIVE COMPANY
•After surpassing the 1,000 dig plateau earlier in the season, Owens is set to join even more rare company as she enters career top 10s in both digs and kill at Tech.
•Owens currently ranks fifth all-time with 1,329 kills and passed Jenni McFadden for 10th last weekend with 1,151 digs.
•She is only one of four players in Tech history to appear in the top 10 in both kills and digs.
