BLACKSBURG -- After splitting its ACC opening weekend that featured an impressive 3-0 sweep of Clemson, the Virginia Tech volleyball team returns to action on Wednesday, Sept. 28, when the Hokies take on Pitt at 7 p.m. at Virginia Tech Carillion Court.

Tech will then welcome in-state foe Virginia on Friday, Sept. 30 for a Commonwealth Clash matchup at Cassell Coliseum set for 7 p.m. The first 200 fans on Friday will receive a “Hokies, Bro” tank and free pizza will be served at the prematch student tailgate. Both matches will be streamed live on the WatchESPN platform via ACC Digital Network Extra.

Senior Amanda McKinzie led the Hokies last weekend with 4.00 kills per set while also adding 3.71 digs per frame and five service aces. McKinzie is currently 18 digs shy of becoming the 17th player in program history to surpass 1,000 in a career.

After sitting out the previous two matches with an injury, junior Cara Cunningham returned to the lineup and hit .455 with four blocks in the 3-0 win over Clemson. Tech also called upon sophomore Kelly Esch, who registered her first career starts as a Hokie against the Tigers and Yellow Jackets last weekend.

The Cavaliers and Hokies have split the last four meetings but the Hokies claimed the most recent showdown, a 3-2 Senior Night victory at Cassell Coliseum on Nov. 28, 2015. The Commonwealth Clash is sponsored by Virginia529.

The Hokies are 6-5 all-time vs. Pitt and have won the last four meetings in the series.
