Match Notes | WatchESPN (vs. Lipscomb)
BLACKSBURG -- The Virginia Tech volleyball team will head to Nashville for its final road non-conference tournament of the season this weekend as the Hokies take part in the Lipscomb Invitational.
Tech will face Northwestern at 11 a.m. and Ole Miss at 6 p.m. on Sept. 9 before facing Lipscomb on Sept. 10 at 3:30 p.m. Saturday’s contest against the Lady Bisons will be streamed live on the WatchESPN platform.
After facing arguably its toughest competition of the preseason at the Puerto Rico Clasico last weekend, the Hokies are set to go up against top programs again in Nashville.The Rebels enter the weekend with a 7-0 record and Lipscomb, the champions of the Atlantic Sun Conference last season, already have wins over Pepperdine and Miami and took a set away from No. 3 Texas on Sept. 1.
The Hokies went 1-2 last weekend at the Puerto Rico Clasico that featured a 3-2 win over Temple on Sept. 2. Freshman libero Carol Raffety was named to the All-Tournament Team after leading all liberos in the field with 4.11 digs per set. Also in Puerto Rico, senior Lindsey Owens went over the 1,000 dig plateau for her career, becoming one of only six players in program history to accumulate 1,000 kills and 1,000 digs.
Scouting the Field
• Northwestern has dropped two of its last three matches after starting the season 3-0. Taylor Tashima is setting 10.67 assists per set and is hitting .424 (16-2-33).
• Ole Miss has gotten out to a hot start after topping Arkansas State on Tuesday to improve to 7-0. Aubrey Edie is the reigning SEC Setter of the Week after setting 11.17 a/s.
• Lipscomb was picked to repeat as ASUN Champions in the preseason. Senior setter Kayla Ostrom was named Preseason ASUN Player of the Year and averages 7.43 a/set in 2016.
