GREENSBORO, N.C. – Senior outside hitter Lindsey Owens added another conference accolade on Friday as the ACC’s coaches voted the Orlando, Fla., native to the Preseason All-ACC team.
Owens, a second team All-ACC selection last season, becomes only the third player in program history to be named to the preseason all-conference team twice. The league’s coaches picked the Hokies to finish ninth and North Carolina to win the ACC this season.
Along with her second team honor as a junior, Owens was named to the ACC All-Freshman team in 2013 and earned first team honors as a sophomore. She led the Hokies last season with 400 kills, 3.33 kills per set and 31 service aces.
Head coach Chris Riley returns an experienced group that features Owens, junior middle blocker Ashley Battle, senior outside hitter Amanda McKinzie and 2015 ACC-All Freshman Team pick Jaila Tolbert. Tech will kick off the season against Appalachian State in the Virginia Tech/Radford Invitational at Cassell Coliseum on August 26 at 7 p.m.
