BLACKSBURG – Virginia Tech head volleyball coach Chris Riley announced on Friday the signing of Gaby Senties and Camila de Freitas Maluf who will join the Hokies beginning in the 2016 season.

Senties is a senior at United High School graduating this spring. The setter is a three-year letter winner under coach Leticia Longoria. The Laredo, Texas native is a three-time bi-district champion, earning all-city honors twice and all-district honors three times during her career. Senties also played club volleyball for the Valley Vellom under coach Vinious Veigan.

“Gaby [Senties] is a tenacious setter who will give us depth and push us as team to be better every day,” Riley said. “We expect her to compete immediately in our gym. She brings a ‘never say die’ attitude to the position so we’re really looking forward to having her.”

In addition to being a standout setter, Senties also earned a black belt in Kakuto Bushi-Do in 2014, winning first place at an international sparring tournament in 2015. Senties, daughter of Abelina Limon-Senties and Juan Manuel Sentias, plans to major in communication at Virginia Tech.

De Freitas Maluf graduated from Colégio Santa Cruz in 2015. The outside/opposite hitter played club volleyball for Esporte Club Pinheiros. The São Paulo, Brazil native helped her team to two state championships and one runner-up performances. De Freitas Maluf was honored as the 2013 athlete of the year.

“Camila [de Freitas Maluf] brings us a wealth of international experience and the ability to contribute immediately as an opposite hitter,” Riley said. “She will be able to hit and block very well in our league. She comes from a terrific family. We’re looking forward to having Camila as a part of our family for the next four years.”

De Freitas Maluf also played handball for the same club, leading the team to a second place finish at the state championship. De Freitas Maluf, daughter of Ivan Maluf Jr. and Zeatriz de Freitas Maluf and sister of Helena, plans to major in business.
