Owens, Tolbert garner All-ACC honors

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Virginia Tech volleyball players Lindsey Owens and Jaila Tolbert were named to the second team All-ACC and all-freshmen teams, respectively, as announced by the conference office on Wednesday.

Owens continues to earn All-ACC honors for the third consecutive season. The junior leads the Hokies with 367 kills to average 3.34 kills per set. Owens recorded her 1,000th career kill this season on Oct. 30 against Miami. She has posted 15 double-doubles with 20 double-figure kill matches. Owens has collected 321 digs this season, setting a career single-match high of 24 at Duke. Additionally, the Orlando, Florida native come in with 53 total blocks and 28 aces to-date this season.

Tolbert garnered her first All-ACC honors as a member of the freshmen team. The Minneapolis native made 10 starts, playing in 23 matches. She has downed 129 kills to-date, including a single match high of 13 at NC State. Tolbert attacked at or above .400 on nine occasions, including a high of .750 with a perfect nine kills from 12 attacks. Additionally, the middle has posted 50 blocks to-date with a best mark of eight against Pitt.

Louisville swept the major honors this year with Katie George taking the Player of the Year and Setter of the Year Honors. Molly Sauer was named both Defensive Player of the Year and Freshman of the Year in addition to Louisville head coach Anne Kordes collecting the Coach of the Year title.

There are 12 schools represented on the 2015 All-ACC team led by Louisville, Florida State, and Miami with four athletes apiece. North Carolina and Duke each have three student-athletes on the team, followed by pitt, Syracuse, and Virginia with two apiece. Virginia Tech, Notre Dame, Georgia Tech, and Boston College round out the group with on athlete each.

Louisville topped the All-Freshman team with two student-athletes. Virginia Tech, Duke, Florida State, NC State, Notre Dame, Syracuse, and Virginia each garnered one freshman spot on the team.

The awards are decided based on a vote of the league’s 15 head coaches.
