Volleyball signs Raffety
The outside hitter hails from California

BLACKSBURG - Virginia Tech head volleyball coach Chris Riley announced the signing of California native Carol Raffety to the Hokies’ squad next season. Raffety will enroll at Tech in the fall of 2016.

“Carol Raffety is a really great ball-control player who we’re looking to make an immediate impact on our team,” Riley said. “We’re hoping she can bring a consistent level of serve-receive and the ability to play on the outside. She’ll be a very good L2 for us at this level and give us the ability to pass half the floor. We’re really looking forward to her consistency coming in.”

Raffety is a senior at Marin Catholic High School where she is an outside hitter for coach Jake Spain. The Novato, California native earned four varsity letters, earning all-league honors each year as well as MVP her junior year. Raffety helped the team to the league championships for the first time in seven years. She also played club volleyball for Spain on the Absolute Volleyball Club, qualifying for the Junior Olympics twice. Raffety was named to the all-tournament team after winning the bronze medal in her first appearance. Raffety, daughter of Vanny Raffety and sister of Maxine, plans on majoring in sports medicine with aspirations to become a trainer.
