LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Despite the Hokies' valiant efforts, the Virginia Tech volleyball team fell short in three sets at No. 22 Louisville in a Sunday matinee. The Hokies slide to 15-11, 6-8 in conference play while the Cardinals improve to 19-5, 13-1 in the ACC.
Rhegan Mitchell grounded the Hokies, assisting 21 and collecting 10 digs to record the Hokies lone double-double. Amanda McKinzie led the squad's offense downing nine kills while Lindsey Owens and Kennedy Bryan added seven and six, respectively. Middle blockers Ashley Battle and Cara Cunningham attacked nearly perfect at .500 and .667 clips, respectively, despite the set back.
A well-balanced Cardinals' offense was led by Erin Fairs who posted a team-high 13 kills. Maya McClendon and Janelle Jenkins added double-digit kills to Fair's total. Despite Kenedy McGrath's team-best 11 digs, the 22nd-ranked Cardinals found the floor to clinch the win.
